Always putting good customer service forward, Art rushed to meet a regular waiting at the paint counter, “What kind of paint can I mix for you today, Elsie?”
“Just a quart of this for painting furniture,” she told him.
“It will just take a few minutes,” the big man promised with a smile. But when he looked down, Art spotted a ladybug studying him from the middle of his workspace. The tiny critter stopped him dead in his tracks as she stared him down.
“Whoa! Just a second while I take care of this little one. She must have flown in the front door earlier.” He tenderly shifted the red beetle from the counter to his hands, then headed out the door and raised his hands high to set it free.
As Art returned to mix the paint he as explained. “We save ladybugs and we’re saving the world!”
“Yes, a big thank you from me for anything like this that eats up all the aphids, mites, larvae of bad insects – Why that’s how we have flowers and food! It’s a whole ecosystem miracle! Every ladybug counts!”
Stewartship of everything that lives. That is God’s plan for us.
He commented about Adam, the first man, “Let us make man in our image, in our likeness and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” [Genesis 1:26]
How does that look? Kindness and care to critters and earth around you.
Add to that Jesus’ greatest commandment, “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” [John 15:12]
How does that look? Can you let that love and care shine out on your coworkers? Share a smile, a snack and a word of encouragement. Family? A text, call, letter and time.
How then will the world be different as we take more time and care with ladybugs, each other and the earth?
